On Orders Over £55Basil is the annual herb of the Mint family Lamiaceae. It is native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, where in India it is known as Tulsi or Indian Basil. Widely grown as a Kitchen herb, basil's aromatic leaves are often used fresh or dried to add flavour to Fish, meats, salads and Sauces.
Medicinally, basil has a long history of use used for stomach spasms, intestinal gas, loss of appetite and head colds.
Some people should avoid eating too much basil, as it may lower blood sugar levels. Adding too much basil to your foods may also make it bitter and unpalatable.
