All pine trees produce edible nuts, however some species of pine trees produce extremely small nuts. The most sought after pine nuts grow upon forest trees which are often found in the countries of Canada, Russia, Pakistan, China, North Korea and the US.
One of the most well known uses of pine nuts in food is as an ingredient in Pesto. Beyond that they can also be used to make hummus with or be sprinkled over yoghurt, fruits and salad.
They are high in fats, so should be consumed in moderation. With that said however, taking away the fat concentration of pine nuts, they do pack quite the nutrient punch when it comes to a large amount of essential Vitamins and Minerals.
