On Orders Over £55Evening Primrose Oil is sourced from the seeds of the flowering plant Onagraceae, which grows in temperate and subtropical regions of North America. Often referred to as EPO, evening primrose oil is a rich source of linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid, or GLA.
Evening primrose oil is often included in products that are applied to the Skin, and is therefore usually promoted for Eczema & Psoriasis. An evening primrose oil food supplement may also benefit those with rheumatoid arthritis too!
In addition to maintaining skin health, the gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) found in evening primrose oil is thought to produce a hormone that generates an inflammatory response, which is better known as prostaglandins. This has prompted some women to reveal the success they have had when using EPO for the symptoms of the Menopause, PMS (premenstrual syndrome), and breast pain.
Here at Natures Healthbox we won't go as far as to tell you what the 'best' brand of EPO is, however we can certainly say we have an extensive selection of evening primrose oils, made by some of the best brands in the natural & organic market today!
There is nothing to suggest that evening primrose oil will have a direct impact on a good night's Sleep, however proponents claim it may improve Low Mood, which in turn could contribute to a better sleeping pattern.
This depends on the condition you wish to treat evening primrose with, the advice from your GP or nutritionist, and the strength of the EPO supplement you intend to use. The recommended dose however is believed to be a dose of 500 milligrams per 8-12 evening primrose oil capsules a day. If you have any concerns, always read the label first or seek suitable medical consultation.
At the time of writing no interactions had been found between the use of evening primrose oil and a Vitamin E supplement, which means you should be able to take them both safely.
Those with epilepsy, schizophrenia or a bleeding disorder should not take evening primrose oil. You should also discontinue the use of an EPO supplement two weeks before any planned surgery.
