What does Viridian Synbiotic Saccharomyces Boulardii do?
Exposure to another country’s foreign bacteria may lead to uncomfortable gastrointestinal symptoms, such as traveller’s diarrhoea. Viridian Synbiotic Saccharomyces Boulardii has been suggested by research to reduce incidence of traveller’s diarrhoea, by neutralising bacterial toxins in the gut. It contains five strains of Lactobacilli & Bifidobacteria, plus prebiotics, and the unique Prebiotic FS2-60 offers full-spectrum prebiotic oligosaccharide and plant-derived inulin. FS2-60 is not digested but is utilised by the friendly flora to increase colonisation of Lactobacilli and the Bifidobacteria whilst reducing the foothold of unfriendly species.
What's the difference between probiotics & prebiotics?
Probiotics are good bacteria that can help improve the health of your gut, by restoring your natural balance. Some probiotics also have beneficial health effects, reducing digestive issues or increasing your resistance to infection, for example. Prebiotics are natural fibres that improve the balance of good gut bacteria and effect of probiotics by providing substrate for their growth.
What is Saccharomyces boulardii?
The non-pathogenic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii was first discovered by French microbiologist, Henri Boulard in 1920 in the skin of Lychee fruit. This remarkable yeast is one of the great success stories in probiotic therapy.
How many types of gut bacteria are there?
There are some 400 species of bacteria in the gut including bacteroides, lactobacillus, clostridium, fusobacterium, bifidobacterium, eubacterium, and peptostreptococcus. Good gut bacteria species which are frequently found in food Supplements include lactobacillus and bifidobacterium species. Modern lifestyle factors including Stress, alcohol, antibiotics, lack of exercise and junk food can cause an imbalance in your bacteria, decreasing the good ones such as the aforementioned Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria. So, as you can see, it is critical to the maintenance of human health that a balance is preserved between these species.
Why should I take Viridian Synbiotic Saccharomyces Boulardii?
When travelling abroad, your digestive system may suffer when adapting to unfamiliar or foreign foods. If this happens, the normal function of the bowels become upset and you may get symptoms like diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and bloating. And while you may not have heard of it, Saccharomyces boulardii has been used for the past thirty years for the prevention and treatment of digestive illness, especially diarrhoea, caused by bad bacteria. Saccharomyces boulardii has also been used to prevent diarrhoea and digestive upset when travelling. In one study a supplement of 250mg taken five days before travel and then every day while away significantly reduced risk of diarrhoea in tourists travelling to northern Africa, the Middle East and Far East.
The anti-infectious properties of Saccharomyces boulardii appear to be in part due to its ability to inhibit the growth of bad bacteria in the gut including Candida albicans, E. coli and parasites while improving the balance of good bacteria and the health of your gastrointestinal tissues.
