Healthy Nutritional Vegan Products

Veganism was hailed as one of the fastest growing lifestyle trends in the United Kingdom. In recent years, veganism has seen a massive increase in popularity with not only the younger generation leading the way, but also a whole host of celebrities like Joaquin Phoenix, Ellen Page, Liam Hemsworth and Natalie Portman to name but a few. The number of vegans in the UK has reached well over half a million and predictions suggest that within the next twenty-five years a quarter of the population could be Vegan.

Why are more people choosing veganism?

Combined with the popularity of the above-mentioned celebrities, an increasingly positive portrayal of veganism in the press, online and on social media has helped to change the public's perception of a vegan diet. Negative press publications about the nutritional, ethical and environmental effects of a meat-and dairy-based diet reinforce the message that veganism or, in many cases, a versatile diet provides health-conscious consumers with a more sustainable way of life.

In response to this changing market trend, the price, choice and quality of vegan products has significantly improved, which in-turn has helped make the difficult transition of switching to a vegan diet easier and more accessible, especially as there are now more convenient and on-the-go vegan products available.

What foods are excluded from a vegan diet?

  • Meat, Fish and other substances that come directly from killing an animal, such as animal fats and gelatine.
  • Dairy products such as cows milk, cheese and yogurt or goats or sheep milk products.
  • Eggs or foods containing eggs such as Quorn.
  • Honey.

How might a vegan diet benefit my body?

Despite the myth that we can’t get all our necessary nutrients eating outside of animal produce, many people choose a vegan diet for its health benefits. Even the British Dietetic Association recognises that a vegan diet is suitable for every age and at every stage of life, because it is full of fruits, vegetables and whole grains that are naturally low in fat and rich in Vitamins, Potassium, Magnesium and fibre.

Some research also suggests that those individuals on a plant-based diet have lower levels of Cholesterol and Blood Pressure, a lower BMI, and have a significantly reduced risk of death from heart disease.
